Remembrance Day

20161113 102434

8 members from the Hayling Island Lions Club joined in with our President Lion Cathy Shoebridge to pay respects to those  brave men and women who  died in conflicts to keep our country independent and safe for future generations.

The parade left the URC Car Park at 11.40m and made its way along the street lined with people also paying their respects to the cenotaph where a 2 minute silence was observed before the many organisations in our community laid their wreaths.

Chernobyl Children

      Getting Happy!         Chernobyl Children

Youngsters from Chenobyl having fun buying themselves some clothes.

How many of you remember the details of Chernobyl, the worst disaster the world has experienced.    Twenty nine years have now passed since the explosion 250 times greater than Hiroshima was reported.   Lions Clubs have not forgotten and year on year we have received children from that area for a day.     We are grateful to .....for bringing them to us and allowing Lions to be involved.   The land is still radioactive.   The spin off effect can still be felt by all.    HalFa million had to be moved out of the Region and Seven million people have been effected The pictures show children living in poverty,   choosing new clothes to take back  home.

Just look  at the delight on their young faces
