Community Shop

Community Shop officially opened in September

On September 22nd the Mayor along with our Lions District Governor came to officially open our shop at 98a Elm Road.
After browsing the vast number of items our District Governor's wife found an excellent hat to buy and wore it next day to a wedding
and was the toast of the event, (second to the bride of course)

The Mayoress was so impressed that she returned in the afternoon to select and buy some clothing and the people of
Hayling Island have been magnificent in their support given to us to date.

Our first six weeks have been all that we could have wished for but we have many hurdles to jump before we can sit back
and feel that we have have a stable source of income going forward. The fact that we publicised that all the net profit from
the shop would be given back to needs on the Island has undoubtedly gone down very well.

It will be for you, the residents of Hayling Island, to decide how the profits from the shop are spent to improve our Island so start thinking now about projects large and

small that could make a difference and let us know by calling into the shop or by clicking this   contact us    link.

We would like to say a big thank you to all those people who have already offered to run the shop and to others who are storing stock for us. We  are grateful for the

volunteer help we have already received from individuals and companies including Ian Knott, John Baxter, Hayling Hardware, Sovereign Carpets, Aqua Kitchens and Bathrooms,

Hayling Build Centre, Barbara Upton and Pullingers. All have provided materials and services either at cost or free of charge. The shop already has the feel of a community

project and many people have commented on how positive they think this will be for Hayling Island.

We are looking for your support

We need to tackle the problem of storage for our increasing stock and recruit volunteers to ensure the successful running of the shop to support many more community schemes

on the Island. We have been asked ' do you have to join the Hayling Lions Club to be a volunteer in the shop '. The answer is ' no ', we are looking for people who can spare a

morning or afternoon to either serve or sort stock, and we know some people have very valuable experience and skills in these areas. If you are interested in becoming a

Hayling Lions Community Shop  volunteer we will need some basic details from you and you can call for a form from:

Cherry Elliott on 02392 463491.
